Responsibilities
Job Title: Senior Manager, Commercial, GBS Process & Analytics Services
Location: Lisbon, Portugal
Introduction to the Role:
At AstraZeneca, we prioritize patients by addressing unmet needs worldwide. We encourage a culture of entrepreneurship, bold thinking, and collaboration, driven by curiosity about science’s potential to deliver breakthrough medicines.
Global Business Services (GBS) is the engine that helps AstraZeneca adapt and grow. We modernize and manage vital processes, creating value that gives our business units the freedom to focus on pushing scientific boundaries.
The GBS Process & Analytics Services (GBS PAS) team uses technology to make business workflows smarter and faster. We help the organization make better decisions by removing friction from daily operations. Our expertise covers the full spectrum of operational improvement, including process mining, re-engineering, and intelligent automation. We also build custom applications and provide advanced data capabilities—such as visual analytics, business intelligence, and applied AI—to ensure every decision is backed by insight.
About the Role:
Reporting to the Senior Director, this Senior Manager role serves as a strategic bridge between commercial leadership and technical delivery. You will combine client management with deep process and analytics expertise to deliver tangible value through GBS Process & Analytics Services.
Your primary focus is partnering with Commercial business units—including Oncology, BioPharmaceuticals, and Global Brands—to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency across global markets (US, Europe, Asia, LATAM, and beyond).
You will hold full accountability for a portfolio of high-value initiatives ($200k–$2m). This includes identifying opportunities, building business cases, leading multi-service delivery, and ensuring financial and non-financial benefits are achieved. Success is measured by validated business outcomes and sustained adoption, rather than just project completion. You will operate with significant autonomy, requiring limited supervision, while providing coaching and direction to Managers to promote best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Building Partnerships & Strategy
- Establish trusted partnerships with senior leaders, turning internal clients into active advocates for our services.
- Locate high-value opportunities to reduce costs or risk (targeting >$10m annual impact) and improve efficiency.
- Align senior leaders on project roadmaps and expected outcomes to ensure clarity.
- Facilitate workshops and forums across Sales, Market Access, Medical, and Marketing to co-create solutions.
- Own account plans that meet specific financial and productivity targets.
Project & Portfolio Leadership
- Direct a portfolio of initiatives ($200k–$2m) from concept to completion, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
- Implement technical solutions—including process mining, automation, and re-engineering—from initial data discovery through to final rollout.
- Define clear plans, milestones, and governance to maintain project health and transparency.
- Guide cross-functional teams and Business Analysts, ensuring resources are used effectively.
- Resolve conflicts and mitigate risks decisively to keep projects moving forward.
- Translate complex process data into compelling business cases (e.g., showing how a change reduces launch timelines).
Collaboration & Teamwork
- Partner with IT and other service leads to deliver business transformation.
- Act as the primary link to commercial leadership, translating their strategy into clear service requirements.
- Champion AstraZeneca values, coach Managers, and help us attract and retain great talent.
Essential Requirements:
Business & Client Experience
- Experience in consulting or professional services, specifically in managing client relationships and developing new business.
- Ability to understand business challenges and build trusted partnerships with senior leaders.
Industry and Domain Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- Deep experience in Pharmaceutical Commercial/Medical Operations (e.g., launches, supply chain) across different markets.
- Experience delivering significant savings ($M+) and leading global process optimization portfolios.
- Hands-on experience with improvement technologies (Process Mining, RPA, BPM) and adapting them to different regulatory environments.
- Strong understanding of advanced analytics, AI, and data science, with the ability to turn insights into action.
Leadership and Delivery
- Experience leading complex, global programs involving many different teams.
- Solid project management skills: setting KPIs, managing risk, and handling change.
- Critical thinker who can navigate uncertainty and manage change effectively.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence others without being their direct manager.
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience in shared services or transformation environments.
- Interest in emerging technology trends related to process improvement.
- Relevant technology qualifications or certifications.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
- Ability to work effectively in multi-cultural, global contexts.
